Newly created Opioid Settlement Advisory Committee to meet today in Bismarck

BISMARCK, N.D. – North Dakota’s Opioid Settlement Advisory Committee will meet today, Feb. 9, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. CST in the North Dakota Workforce Safety and Insurance conference room, 1600 E. Century Ave., Suite 1, in Bismarck. The public is invited to attend.

On Jan. 6, Gov. Doug Burgum issued an executive order creating the Opioid Settlement Advisory Committee. The committee will advise on the distribution of funds received under settlement agreements between opioid manufacturers and the state. The committee will also make recommendations on how the money should be used to help combat opioid abuse. This is the first of at least four public meetings to be held this year.

Representatives from the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office will give a presentation on the opioid settlement funds including allowable uses and the purpose of the advisory committee. North Dakota Health and Human Services Behavioral Health Executive Director Pamela Sagness will lead a discussion on creating an engagement strategy and current legislative actions related to opioids.

The agenda also includes time for comments from the public at approximately 4:15 p.m. CST. More details can be found in the public meeting notice.

Individuals who need accommodations to participate in the meeting can contact Amy Lies at 701-328-8933, toll-free 800-755-2719, 711 (TTY) or amlies@nd.gov.

The committee consists of six voting members appointed by the governor and a non-voting chairperson designated by the governor, with equal representation from state and local governments. To learn more about the advisory committee, visit the North Dakota Boards and Commissions website.
